Fairfax Nature Day Camp
Wilderness skills, nature connection and ecological stewardship wrapped in lots of adventure and play.
Our Feral Fairfax Nature Camp is an organic, all natural, local, free range, carbon friendly summer experience in the hills and lakes of Fairfax.
Free Range We spend our days roaming freely around the wonderful hills and reservoirs of Fairfax. We take a welcome break from the boundaries of school yards and ceilings, learning through play and adventure by following our natural curiosities.
All Natural We are outside all day, all the time, immersing ourselves in nature. We take this immersion very seriously, occasionally rolling around in grass or mud, so be prepared to give your child a shower after a day of camp. We are not afraid to get dirty.
Local Our instructors and many of our participants live in Marin County and the home office of TrackersBAY is actually in Fairfax.
Organic Our curriculum and activities are place based, flowing naturally out of the environment we are in. Our ratios are small enough to cater to the particular needs and curiosities of the group of kids in each camp.
Carbon Friendly We try our best to be model eco-citizens, we use ecologically sensitive project materials and treat our landscape with great respect. Our camp t-shirts for example, are dyed naturally using soy milk and clay. We even counter-act our carbon footprint every week by doing a restoration project.

Our Mission
At TrackersBAY, we help foster environmental stewardship by lessons aimed at teaching awareness of the natural processes that surround us. Our curriculum covers key aspects of biology, geology, botany, natural history, astronomy, storytelling, awareness, nutrition, all in fun activities that connect children with their local environment. We also teach youth the skills necessary to become hyper-competent adults, from understanding how to find their way around a forest and their community, to taking care of the landscape to how to construct things for themselves- useful skills that they'll likely carry with them for the rest of their lives.

*Please understand that we pick our specific activities based on the group of children we are working with and other conditions. Therefore not every week will have each specific activity listed here as an example.
We help children to feel like that group of kids wandering country backyards 50 years ago: independent, tired, muddy, wet and happy from the woods and wild. We are acutely aware of full and real hazards of the out of doors after years of working in environmental education. We try to move away from the highly structured and limiting tolerances of conventional environmental education while keeping kids truly safe but not encapsulated from, or phobic of nature. We are deep patriots to the value of offering guided yet very free and transparent experiences for kids. We believe it is okay to be thirsty at times, cold at times, and wet at times. It builds empathy and care for the gifts of life. It fosters adventure and sincere accomplishment. We also believe it is critical to feel supported and cared for as they truly explore their passion and responsibility. And through a healthy life immersed in nature, they test the limits and great potential of the often untapped physical and emotional resiliency they possess.
