Every kid should go fishing...

The Great Blue Heron The Master Swordsman, who with the tip of his sword bill makes a decent living plying the waterways of the swamp kingdoms, catching fish, and keeping watch for those more sensitive souls such as Duck, Raccoon, and others. Learn from his tracks, how to move as silently as a breath of wind, learn from his home, how to dance with the fish and convince them to live on in your belly.

Fishing for Life

This week we fish, catching our swimming friends with a cast of a reel and a fly rod. We learn about trout, carp and sturgeon; all species and how they hide and how the heron hunts them.

We learn to cast a reel rod and a "Huck Finn" fishing pole we make ourselves. We wait patiently along the dock of the San Francisco Bay wishing for fish. We sit by the shore enjoying the last of the summer days and we learn the story of the Salmon and how they are preparing to return from the ocean for the Fall season.

Please Note Like all great fishing trips sometimes we catch a lot of fish, sometimes we catch nothing. Yet we will always have a tall tale to tell. Also, catching fish often means eating them. We deal with this life and death through what we at Trackers feel is a healthy process. We also suggest you preface it with your child in the manner your family would wish to.

Our Philosophy for Learning & Living

A Smile

We help children to feel like that group of kids wandering country backyards 50 years ago: independent, tired, muddy, wet and happy from the woods and wild. We are acutely aware of full and real hazards of the out of doors after years of working in environmental education. We try to move away from the highly structured and limiting tolerances of conventional environmental education while keeping kids truly safe but not encapsulated from, or phobic of nature. We are deep patriots to the value of offering guided yet very free and transparent experiences for kids. We believe it is okay to be thirsty at times, cold at times, and wet at times. It builds empathy and care for the gifts of life. It fosters adventure and sincere accomplishment. We also believe it is critical to feel supported and cared for as they truly explore their passion and responsibility. And through a healthy life immersed in nature, they test the limits and great potential of the often untapped physical and emotional resiliency they possess
