Edible & Medicinal Plants Bay Area, CA
Fundamentals This 2-day Course teaches the fundamental skills required for the core study of Edible and Medicinal Plants. Through the expertise of Trackers Wilders Guild instructors we begin with the basics of identification, safety and taxonomy. We then cover ethics of gathering with the goal of intensifying harvest for future generations. Finally we address the basic principles of herbology and how wild foods can contribute to both the health of your body and community.
Identification, Safety and Taxonomy
Good identification involves understanding the different plant families. We also address how it pays to know the toxic and poisonous plants of your area and how to avoid their look alikes in the beginning stages of learning.
Preserving and Ethics of Harvesting
Gathering does not end with the plant in your collection bag. For edible and medicinal plants to become a practical skill you need to be able to preserve your harvest with abundance and quality. You also need to be able to gather in such a way to insure the regeneration of our natural resources in the future.
Health for the Body and Community
Not only do wild plants nourish us, they can also offer many medicinal benefits. This is not limited to western red cedar boosting our immune system or oregon grape reducing parasites, it is also good medicine for a village that lives by wild foods. The Wilders Guild offers their holistic view of healthly living for both the individual and community.
