Trackers Hawaii
Hawaiian Island Adventure: Mountains to Ocean Ages 14-18

More summer camps >

Join Trackers Earth on an Hawaiian island adventure that spans the the foothills of Mauna Kea Mountain, the Waipio Valley and finally to the warm tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean. During this time you go snorkeling, journey in an outrigger canoe, get hands-on experience in bamboo construction, practice island farming and gardening of local foods, learn about Hawaiian culture and storytelling, fish by throw net, explore magnificent waterfalls, build a surfboard you surf on and much more.

The Mountains

At the Farm as School, Food as Medicine camp you learn bamboo joinery and construction from local experts. We apply our newfound knowledge to useful projects that support the local community. You also get an opportunity to learn both the traditional and modern craft of surfboard building, eventually using what you create in your own surfing lessons from Trackers instructors. While at the camp we explore ancient lava caves lined with indigenous kukui nut trees and ohia-lehua. Our goal is to forage for food in the forest, harvest from the garden and create and thrive by completely locally grown and wild foods.

The Valley

Waipio Valley, the Valley of the Kings, was once home to the great grass palace of the ancient Kings of Hawaii. Here we explore its magnificent waterfalls and rivers. Most importantly we immerse ourselves in the Hawaiian culture and spirit, learning about throw net fishing, taro farming, the hula and traditional music and stories. This is where we sit around the campfire with great new friends, roasting macadamia nuts and sharing our adventures.

The Ocean

This is the time to snorkel, surf, hang out on the beach and live the island lifestyle. With experienced instructors we pay our respects to the Great Pacific Ocean. We learn to paddle and safely use an outrigger canoe. All this, plus you get to catch the waves with the surfboard you made, experiencing the ebb and flow of the Pacific.
